Will the Predicted Record-Breaking Hurricane Season Bring Another Katrina?

Hurricane

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has predicted a record hurricane season in 2010. Experts are saying this will be the most active hurricane season since the 2005 record-breaker, when Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast.

The prediction has many homeowners feeling uneasy. Though nothing can be done to prevent a hurricane, your best defense is being prepared. Here are some things you can do now to make dealing with hurricane damage easier.

  • Review your home owners insurance policy and know what is covered
  • Take pictures of all valuables in your home, electronics, furniture, etc., and place these pictures with a copy of your policy in a waterproof bag
  • Create a hurricane preparedness plan, so that everyone knows what to do, where to go, and who to call in the event of a major hurricane
  • If your home owners insurance doesn't cover hurricane damage, call USI Affinity at 800.265.2876 or go to the USI Affinity Web site.
