Do you know what to do if you're in a boating accident?
06/24/2010
Did you know that Federal law requires most boating accidents be reported to the authorities? The operator of a boat involved in an accident must file a boating accident report with the State reporting authority if:
- Someone disappears from the boat under circumstances that indicate death or injury
- The boat or other property damage totals $2,000 (lower amounts in some states and territories) or more
- The boat is destroyed
- Someone dies
- Someone is injured and requires medical treatment beyond first aid
After the accident is reported, the next step is to call your insurance company to file a claim.
